Volunteer with FND Connect

Your skills matter.
You belong here.

Bring your experience, your kindness, your ideas. Find your people—and help someone else find theirs.

A little time. A real connection. A place in the family.

You are still you

Life may have changed.
Your value hasn’t.

When FND changes your working life, it can take away more than a routine. You may miss the conversations, the sense of purpose and feeling part of something.

Your skills, experience and ideas are still valuable. Volunteering can be a way to use them again, make connections and do something that matters to you.

You don’t have to earn your place here. You matter on the days you can help—and on the days you need support.

Always looking for local group coordinators

Be the reason someone feels less alone.

Run a Local Support Group

A friendly welcome. A familiar face. A room where you don’t have to explain everything. Help bring that feeling to people living with FND near you.

I’d like to run a group

Choose “Run a Local Support Group” when you register.

What’s involved?

  1. Bring people togetherWork with us on a suitable venue and meeting dates, and help local people hear about the group.
  2. Make everyone feel welcomeGreet people, help the conversation flow and create space for people to share—or simply listen.
  3. Keep the essentials in placeUse the Group Manager to organise meetings and attendance, complete venue safety checks and report concerns.

You’re a coordinator and a welcoming face, not a clinician. We provide training, tools and a route to ask for help.

Supported from the start

You bring the care.
We help you feel prepared.

For Local Support Group coordinators, getting ready is part of the journey. You won’t be expected to work it all out yourself.

Safeguarding training

Learn about boundaries, recognising concerns and when and how to report them.

Systems training

Get to know the Volunteer Portal and Group Manager, from meeting dates to attendance and resources.

Enhanced DBS checks

We guide coordinator applicants through the required check before approval. You may know this by the older name, CRB.

Insurance cover

Cover for approved FND Connect volunteering activities, with the team explaining what applies to your role before you start.

Other roles have their own guidance and checks where required. We’ll explain what you need for the volunteering you choose.

Find your way to make a difference

There’s more than
one way to belong.

People skills, practical skills, creative skills. There’s more to volunteering than fundraising. Choose what interests you and we’ll explore the right fit together.

Your wellbeing comes with you

A role that fits you.
Room to be human.

Some tasks can happen from home. Others bring you into your community. Tell us about your energy, access needs and availability so we can discuss what is realistic.

You don’t need to promise more than you can manage. If symptoms or circumstances change, talk to us about adjusting your tasks or taking a break.

Running a group needs planning and continuity. We’ll discuss the time involved and arrangements for when you’re unwell before you take it on.

Let’s talk about what could work for you

Your first steps

Start with you.
We’ll take it from there.

  1. Tell us what interests you

Create your volunteer account, choose your interests and tell us when you’re available. There’s space to share anything you’d like us to know.

  2. Get ready together

Read and sign the volunteer agreement, explore your portal and complete the training and checks needed for your role.

  3. Find your first contribution

Agree the next steps with the team. Local Support Groups need coordinator and group approval before they begin.

Do I need to have FND or previous volunteering experience?

No. We welcome people living with FND, carers, family members and others who want to help. Bring your skills or a willingness to learn; we’ll discuss what each role needs. Volunteer registration is for people aged 18 and over.

What if I’m not sure what I can manage?

You don’t have to choose everything now. Contact the team to talk through your interests and access needs, or add them in the notes when you register. We can explore tasks that fit your circumstances.

Can I be part of the community without volunteering?

Absolutely. You don’t need to volunteer to belong. Join our online community or find a Local Support Group for connection and support.
