Our status and governance

01 · Purpose

Who we help and why

FND can affect movement, sensation, speech and everyday independence. The impact reaches families, education, work and the ability to stay connected.

Our work is for people living with FND, people under clinical investigation, and the families and carers supporting them. Our public information also helps educators, employers, clinicians and the wider community understand FND.

We focus on three connected aims: increasing understanding, relieving needs associated with illness and disability, and reducing isolation. Our Articles of Association set out the current organisation’s objects, including education, practical assistance and support communities.

Our information and peer support complement professional care. We do not diagnose FND or provide an emergency medical service.

02 · Activities

Our work in practice

Support people can use today, with a clear purpose behind each service.

Clear information and education

Plain-English symptom guides, practical topic guides and learning for families, schools and workplaces help people understand FND and respond more confidently.

Intended benefit: better understanding of FND, more informed conversations and practical support at home, in education and at work.

Connection and peer support

Our online community, virtual support sessions and developing local group network give people affected by FND opportunities to share experience and find understanding.

Intended benefit: less isolation and stronger informal support. Peer support offers shared experience; it is not clinical treatment.

Tools for everyday life

SeizeControl helps people record symptoms and prepare information for appointments. Our appointment pack and practical resources help people explain their experiences and organise their next steps.

Intended benefit: clearer communication, better preparation and more control over the information people share about their own lives.

Assessed grants and practical help

We consider FND-related requests for mobility aids, communication equipment, therapy equipment and one-off essential costs when suitable support is not adequately available through other routes.

Intended benefit: relieving practical needs associated with illness, disability or financial hardship, and supporting safety and independence.

03 · Access

Public benefit and access

Help is directed towards FND-related needs, with clear routes into support.

Open information, without a paywall

Anyone can read our public guides. You do not need to buy a product, donate or become a paying member to use them. The family carers course is free; school and workplace training has a published fee. Course details explain what is included.

Practical help based on need

Grant applicants must live in the UK and have an FND-related need, including where FND is under clinical investigation. Adults can apply for themselves; parents, carers and advocates can apply for a dependent. The programme is not for medical emergencies.

The published assessment considers clinical need, the effect on daily life, financial need, other routes explored and supporting evidence. Authorised staff make the final decision. A score or eligible application does not guarantee an award.

Different ways to take part

Online information and virtual groups offer options for people who cannot travel. Local group availability varies. If a form, resource or activity is difficult to access, contact us to discuss the help you need.

Meet the people responsible

Our current legal status

FND CONNECT CIC is a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee, Company No. 17313147. Our application to convert to a charity is with the Charity Commission and is being processed. We are not yet a registered charity.

Our current Articles provide for an asset lock and state that the company is not established or conducted for private gain. Conversion and charitable registration depend on the formal process; this page describes our activities and intended public benefit.

These policies set the standards for our work. If you have a question, concern or complaint about a service, decision or use of funds, contact FND Connect.

06 · Sustainability

How the work is funded

Donations, community fundraising and income from paid activities help sustain the organisation’s work. Funding supports practical assistance as well as the resources, people and systems needed to provide services.

Our Fund the FND Gap campaign explains the Grant Pot. Monthly giving offers another way to support the work. You can also give your time and skills.

Our FND merchandise shop is a separate way to raise awareness and support FND Connect.
