Poppy Arabella Gunn’s story
Hey everyone!
Thank you so much for stopping by my page. Sharing this feels quite vulnerable, but it’s for a cause that is deeply, unbelievably close to my heart.
This past summer, my whole life shifted when I was officially diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
Before this, I was working for myself as a beauty therapist and busy navigating life as a solo mum to my amazing 6-year-old boy, Rudy. Almost overnight, my body completely changed.
The easiest way to describe FND is like a software glitch in your nervous system. My physical "hardware" (my brain structure and nerves) is completely fine, but the "software" sending signals from my brain to my body constantly crashes.
On any given day, my body just doesn't play ball. I deal with:
Aggressive tics and spasms that throw my neck and spine around and leave me properly sore for days.
Mobility wobbles and sudden leg weakness, making walking or keeping my balance a real struggle.
Speech blocks and heavy brain fog, where the words just won't come out.
Pure fatigue from my nervous system running on maximum emergency power 24/7.
Living with FND alongside CPTSD and ADHD means life is completely unpredictable right now. Being unable to work in the beauty business I built and navigating daily physical crashes has been one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to face.
Why I’m Taking On the FND Connect Hike
So... why am I signing up for a hike next June when my legs wobble and standing still can feel like a feat of endurance?
Because I want to prove to myself—and show my boy—that even when my body crashes, my spirit hasn't.
Taking on the FND Connect Hike is a massive personal milestone for me, but more than that, it’s about raising vital money and awareness for a condition that so many people know nothing about. FND is surprisingly common, yet so invisible, misunderstood, and isolating.
How You Can Help
I would be endlessly grateful for any support you can give, no matter how big or small:
Donate: Even a few quid makes a massive difference to FND Connect and will keep me pushing through training!
Share: If you can't donate right now, simply sharing this page with your friends or on social media helps get FND out into the open.
Thank you endlessly for reading my story, supporting my recovery, and helping me take on this huge challenge.
All my love,
X
